New regulations to help disabled bus passengers.

The Government has introduced the Accessible Information Regulations which require operators to provide audio-visual announcements on buses.

The information, which includes next-stop, route, termination and any necessary diversion announcements, will need to be provided by local operators in Great Britain from October.

This work forms part of the Government’s Inclusive Transport Strategy which aims to improve the experience of disabled people on all forms of transport including buses, rail and cruise ships.

Commenting on this Andrew Jones MP said: “Those of us who use buses locally will know that there are many local routes where this service is already up and running.

“I am pleased, although a little disappointed this has been necessary, that the Government has legislated so that operators who have not done this off their own bat now have a deadline of October to put this right.”
