New indie fills Commercial Street’s last empty shop.

New business Wave Aquariums opened its doors for the first time on Saturday. A good turnout browsed a variety of tropical fish with customers wasting no time in making purchases.

The shop, on the vibrant and popular Commercial Street, is run by Jonny Rhodes. Jonny’s lifelong fascination with aquatics – having worked as a scuba diving instructor and kept fish since he was a boy – compelled him to open Wave Aquariums so he can share his knowledge of and passion for marine life.

The shop sells aquariums of varying sizes and has everything you need to fill one including tropical fish, corals and an array of equipment and nutrients to ensure the conditions are right for the fish.

The new enterprise was opened by Andrew Jones, Member of Parliament for Harrogate and Knaresborough. Mr Jones said: “I was delighted to be invited to the opening of Wave Aquariums and it was great to see so many people supporting local businesses.

“Jonny is extremely knowledgeable about marine life and is on hand to offer advice to his customers as well as providing them with all the tools they need for their aquarium.

“It is a great example of why shops – particularly independent ones – are still relevant as face-to-face advice is invaluable when buying specialised products such as aquariums.”

There was only one empty unit on Commercial Street and now that Wave Aquariums has filled this it means this characterful mecca of independent local businesses is back to full strength.
