Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones visited Harrogate’s JobcentrePlus to discuss the Department for Work and Pensions’ Way to Work scheme and meet local employers. The scheme builds on existing programmes such as Kickstart which found employment for 160 local young people since the Chancellor launched it in 2020. The Way to Work scheme aims to find employment for 500,000 jobseekers of all ages by providing named employer advisers, organising job fairs and matching candidates to interviews.
Mr Jones spoke to several businesses who have roles to fill including Aldi and Warner Leisure Hotels who own Nidd Hall. Mr Jones said of the visit:
‘It was great to see the JobcentrePlus busy with employers looking to take people on. We have gone from having an employers’ market nationally to having an employees’ market so I was pleased to see this reflected in the pay and benefits of the jobs on offer. Locally we have low levels of unemployment however I would encourage anyone looking for work to get in touch with the excellent team at the Jobcentre as there is lots of help available for jobseekers.’
