Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones questioned the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Thérèse Coffey about the successor to the Kickstart scheme. He praised the recent Kickstart scheme whilst asking whether the Government will focus the Way to Work scheme on filling sectors that need workers such as the health and care sector.
Mr Jones asked: “The excellent team at my local Job Centre Plus tell my office that they have placed 163 young people in Harrogate into work through the government’s Kickstart programme. Will the minister ensure that the new Way to Work scheme will build on this particularly in sectors where we are seeing shortages of workforce such as social care?”
Responding Ms Coffey promised that the new scheme would take forward the work of the Kickstart scheme and match employers with potential employees.
In their briefing by the local Job Centre Plus staff, Mr Jones’s team were told of the success of the Kickstart scheme. There are a lot of vacancies at the moment particularly in the care sector which is why Mr Jones raised the question.
