Local MP Andrew Jones is highlighting the importance of tourism to our local economy as part of English Tourism Week. The annual event is a celebration of brilliant events and venues that encourage people to visit our towns, cities and the countryside.
Taking place during English Tourism Week is the Fire and Light Experience in Harrogate’s Valley Gardens. The award-winning gardens will host stunning illuminations and fire sculptures for three nights from Thursday 24 March to Saturday 26 March.
Harrogate International Festivals have organised the event with support from Harrogate Borough Council and Harrogate BID – a body which promotes the interests of town centre businesses.
Andrew met the Festival’s Chief Executive Sharon Canavar at the Valley Gardens to see the plans for the light and fire spectacular first-hand before they begin being installed next week.
Andrew commented: “The International Festivals run an annual programme of exciting cultural events alongside many other local organisations. These events bring tens of thousands of people into Harrogate who not only have an unforgettable experience but spend in our economy supporting businesses and jobs.
“That is why it is right that we celebrate English Tourism Week and highlight the importance of cultural events that are brought to us by fantastic organisations like Harrogate International Festivals.”
Sharon added: “The impact of cultural events on the vitality of our area cannot be underestimated. They play a significant part in the tourism sector locally which has a value of £600m and supports 8000 jobs.
“They are also amazing fun and I hope that thousands will again join us for an experience that will dazzle the senses.”
Tickets for the event can be booked on the International Festivals website at http://www.harrogateinternationalfestivals.com/whats-on/a-light-fire-experience. The event opens on Thursday 24 March from 6.30pm to 10.30pm and will run for three nights.
