Green boxes and lampposts across High Harrogate have recently been damaged or spray painted by vandals, with the One Arch, East Parade, Dragon Parade, Bower Street and Bower Road being areas where graffiti is particularly visible.
Cllr Tim Myatt has been in contact with the police regarding the spate of damage, and has asked the council to increase CCTV coverage near the One Arch.
Working with Andrew Jones MP, Cllr Myatt is also contacting companies or local authorities who own street furniture to ask that the graffiti is removed and damage repaired.
Cllr Tim Myatt said: “The area affected by graffiti is a main route into town for residents, and it’s important we take action to restore and improve the area as quickly as possible. Local people deserve to be able to walk into the town centre without seeing graffiti and vandalised items.”
Andrew Jones MP commented: “My team and I are supporting Tim’s campaign to keep High Harrogate – and our wider town area – clean of graffiti. Thanks to a long campaign by Tim and fellow councillors, the area around the One Arch is likely to receive a significant amount of investment in the next 18 months to improve the entrance to the town centre, so it’s important that graffiti doesn’t undo all this hard work”
