A Visit Harrogate collaboration with LNER will bring visitors from London and the South East of England for a festive break
Visit Harrogate will be on the right track this December as it works with rail company, LNER, to bring people from London to Harrogate on a special Christmas Express on the morning of Friday 10 December.
Passengers will be welcomed at the First Class lounge at King’s Cross before their journey which will include a goodie bag of Harrogate treats. On arrival in Harrogate they will be able to enjoy the town’s attractions, food and drink options, retail experience and Christmas fayre before staying overnight in the town.
With a regular direct train service between London and Harrogate the intention is to build on the relationship and bring more visitors to experience the town and beyond.
Gemma Rio, head of destination management at Harrogate Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to be working with LNER to bring more visitors to Harrogate for a festive break. Overnight visitors spend money in our hotels, restaurants, shops and visitors attractions – which is exactly what our local businesses need after a difficult year.
“The direct service from London is a real asset to our visitor economy, so we’re committed to working closely with LNER in the lead up to Christmas and beyond to ensure potential visitors from the South East know just how easy it is to reach us.”
Kate McFerran, director of communications at LNER said: “We are excited to announce that Harrogate will be the destination for our very first Christmas Market Event. It’s such a stunning location for a weekend visit, offering something for all the family and it promises to be especially magical this Christmas.
“We’re passionate about rail and our destinations and inspiring people to explore new places by train. We’re delighted to be working with Visit Harrogate to bring more visitors to the town to enjoy everything it has to offer, supporting tourism and local businesses.”
This collaboration forms part of the largest Christmas Campaign in Visit Harrogate’s history. Following an extremely difficult year for local businesses, the campaign is aimed at attracting day and overnight visitors to experience everything Harrogate District has to offer this festive season.
