MP encourages people to learn CPR.

Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, Andrew Jones, joined members of Yorkshire Ambulance Service and pupils at King James School, Knaresborough last week to learn the basics of CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as part of ‘Restart a Heart week’ organised by the Resuscitation Council UK, the British Heart Foundation, St John Ambulance and fire and rescue services.

The annual event aims to teach people how to do basic CPR so that they can step forward in an emergency.  Chances of survival drop 10 per cent every minute if CPR is not started when someone has had a cardiac arrest.  If basic CPR was started quickly for everyone suffering a cardiac arrest, thousands of lives would be saved every year.

Following the event Mr Jones said: “This is such a vital skill to learn and I would encourage everyone to try and do so.  As well as events like these there are online videos produced by professionals which I would urge people to look at.”
