Harrogate Borough Council’s planning committee has turned down an application to build new homes behind Meadowside Academy in Knaresborough.
This is the second time refusal has been given following applications for 218 homes which then decreased to 170 homes. The site is outlined for residential development in the district’s local plan, for a reduced 148 homes.
Persimmon Homes have applied to build 77 homes on the former Trelleborg industrial site on Halfpenny Lane. Knaresborough Town Council have objected to the application on a number of grounds.
Councillor Zoe Metcalfe commented: “It is great news that HBC have refused the application for behind Meadowside. The housing proposed was too dense, access was poor and improvements are needed for that scheme.
“I would encourage all local residents to submit comments on the 77-home proposed development so that these can be taken into account by HBC’s planning committee later this year.”
