Construction of the Otley Road cycle way is due to begin shortly. Work was originally scheduled to start last year but was delayed. A further delay has been caused by the utility works currently taking place. It is hoped that the first phase of the will be completed by the end of the year.
Otley Road is a particularly busy main road due to nearby schools, business parks and the new developments. It is hoped the cycle way will help to relieve some of the congestion in the area.
The work will see the loss of some ‘Stray Land’ and therefore a consultation was launched to identify the preferred location of the replacement Stray Land. 81% of those who took part in the consultation agreed with the Council’s preferred option of land at Wetherby Road next to the war memorial.
Cllr Sam Gibbs commented: “During the construction there are likely be delays and road closures but I will be working with Cllr Jim Clark and North Yorkshire County Council to ensure these result in as little disruption as possible. If you would like more information, please email me at sam.gibbs@harrogate.gov.uk.”
