Many people will have noticed the recent erection of replacement fencing along the edge of the railway line which runs from the town centre to Hornbeam Park, and extensive clearing of vegetation along embankments. Local people were taken aback by the lack of effective warning about these works.
Councillor John Ennis has been in touch with Network Rail to complain about the extent of the vegetation clearance. Cllr Ennis said: “As well as vegetation clearance, we have seen the removal of some mature trees in apparent good health. This has been quite a traumatic experience for those living nearby and the fact that Network Rail can operate freely, including in conservation areas, without obtaining planning permission has been a revelation to many. I would for instance have preferred to see fencing used which was more appropriate to a mature residential area. I will continue to raise these issues with Network Rail as necessary.”
