Proposals for a new council.

The local media is full of thoughts about how a new council for our area might look. This follows news that the government wants to get rid of the current system where we have a district council and a county council. This would be replaced by a single council that would run all our services.

The government have said that the best size for new councils would be a population of 400,000. The population of the Harrogate district is around 160,000 so the new council would be bigger.

One of the proposals is for an East council and a West council covering the area of York and North Yorkshire. You can read more about it at http://www.get-change-right.com and also let the councillors proposing this know what you think.
